Hair loss For Women- Some Great Tips

By

It’s no use despising other women that have naturally thick luscious hair without worries. In fact, hair loss for women is more common than not. I know what it feels like when you run your finger through your hair and continuously remove bunches of hair. It can be very depressing especially when it is prolonged. I know how it feels to keep trying many products ranging from supplements to treatments just to find out it was a waste of time. You don’t know whether to believe those who say that hair is dead or those that say the opposite. You also can’t afford to do anything you want with your hair whether you want to dye it, perm it or simply to blow dry it in fear that it will make your situation worse. So the problem isn’t just the hair loss it’s also that you can’t have any fun with your hair or look your best. Oh how frustrating it is to find shed hair on your shoulders, your pillow, and especially the bathtub after you have showered. Forget about the devastating experience of rinsing the shampoo out of your hair. There is not much you can do with very thin hair because it doesn’t look good no matter what you do with it. So you really have no choice but to keep trying to find out the source of your problem and solve it. There are several smart things to do if you think you have tried everything.

GET A BLOOD TEST

The most common cause of hair loss in women is anemia or a very low serum ferritin level. You don’t even have to have anemia to lose hair. If your iron stores (ferritin) are lower than 70 then you may have found your problem. Just think about it, are you eating enough red meat and greens veggies every day?

Blood tests can also tell you if you are deficient in other important vitamins like B-6 and B-12. Minerals that are important for the hair should also be tested. Maybe your problem is not the lack of something but too much of something else. For example if you have too much Copper in your system it can lead to hair loss. Too much protein can also have the same effect. The body tries to get rid of excess protein and the first thing it will do is get rid of the hair. Find out just how much protein your body needs on a daily basis.

Women go through hormonal changes all the time. Sometimes the main culprit can be a hormonal imbalance. If so, then all you would need is a prescription from your doctor. Get your thyroids tested because hypothyroidism does make you lose hair.

Stress

Stress can do a lot of damage to our bodies. If stress can cause many serious diseases imagine the impact it can do to your hair. When people are stressed they also tend to neglect their health which ads more gas to the fire.

Trauma

A trauma can contribute to losing some hair for a while. This can include a traumatic event like an accident or death a loved one. Undergoing a surgical procedure or childbirth can also be traumatic to your body. Normally you will lose hair a couple months later but it should eventually normalize.

Chemical Treatments

You may have had more fun with your hair than it can handle. Hair should be treated very delicately; any harsh chemicals can be very bad. As some hair may never grow back you need to ask yourself if it’s worth looking nice for a few months. I would say “No Way”. Should you decide to go ahead with it make sure you follow the instructions very carefully and avoid getting anything on your scalp. For those who haven’t heard it before I will repeat it, the worst you can do to your hair is relax it. Maybe you can get away with chemical treatments every now and then but it would be smart to find out when it becomes unsafe.

H20

Water, as we all know, is essential for just about everything. Some people have no problem drinking lots of water everyday but this is for those who don’t. I know people who don’t drink as much as a glass full for days.

Exercise

We are all not the same. Maybe you have better circulation then the person next to you, maybe not. The scalp doesn’t get much circulation to begin with and to fix that you can either massage it every day or better yet get a good workout. Circulation is important because it makes your nutritional intake reach everywhere including your head and hair follicles.

Supplements

Multivitamins can help you get back on track quicker nutrition-wise. Iron supplements are helpful to raise your iron stores or your ferritin levels. Last but not least Omega-3 is extremely beneficial for healthy hair. The best source of Omega-3 is Salmon and flax seeds.

Summing it Up

All of the above are very important factors that can help stop hair loss and regain your hair. If you cover all your bases you may hopefully begin to see less shedding. I love to see obvious results, so what I did when I treated my hair loss was, I gathered all the lost hair of one day into a zip lock bag. From day one I did this everyday with each day its own bag marking the dates on each. I did begin to see less and less hair in the bags as weeks went by. It was fun and felt very good. I did it until I went from uncountable amounts to 200 strands of hair shedding a day. Yes, sometimes you literally have to count each strand. It’s easier than you might think, just use a clean brush and brush three times a day removing all the hair from it into the bag. I am amazed at how much hair I was losing at the beginning and so happy I did something about it.

I did not know that Omega 3 was good for hair? Do you have any recommendations on how much Omega 3 we should take for optimum hair benefits? You mentioned salmon as a good source of Omega 3. I was wondering if you recommend using farmed salmon or wild salmon? I have read that wild salmon has higher Omega-3 content and astaxanthin in it. But I could not find anything on hair so thank you for that new information which I will share and forward your blog address. I live in a remote area so it’s not easy to find decent salmon so what I do is I order it online. I read at http://www.order-salmon.com that Sockeye salmon is one of the best kinds of salmon you can eat because of its higher Omega-3 content.

Hi Julia, thanks for posting. Yes Omega-3 is excellent for your hair. I'm not really a professional to tell you exactly how much is needed. But I do know that out of everything I have ever tried to get my hair to stop falling out munching on flax seeds for about two weeks or taking Omega 3 fish oil supplements have shown me the biggest improvements. Not only did my hair loss slow down significantly but my hair was extremely shiny and noticeably softer. As soon as I get off the Omega 3 may hair begins to dry up and fall out again. I may not be an expert but I do tons of research and I do have the experience.
